Auto adding tip angles

Post by smudge611 » Tue Feb 18, 2020 3:49 pm

Is there a way to stop cmm manager from adding tips to my list? I have a ph20, and set most of the angles at the normal 7.5 degree difference like the ph10. But I am constantly getting angles added to my list that I did not add manually

Which version of CMM-Manager? There have been changes to this area over time...

Guess I could ask too -- it it adding (i) inferred tips at 7.5 degree angles as you use them? Or random things like 7.42 and 7.83?

There have been major changes since 3.6 to address this very type of issue. There's not much that can be changed in 3.3 to change this behavior. Sorry.

3.10 which releases in a few months also addresses some random PH20 path planning quirks as well. Actually, there have been many improvements to path planning since 3.3 in general anyway. It may be worth looking into updating to 3.10 when it releases? You can always do a trial copy when it releases (or do a trial of 3.9 SP2 for that matter) and see how it works for you? Since all of our versions, including service packs, run side-by-side, it does not change your 3.3 install.

What version of UCC Suite is installed? 5.0.5-ish?

Here is a (non-exhaustive) list of enhancements we've made up till 3.9 SP2 related to PH20 & I++. You see many of these items are bug fixes and minor enhancements. As CMM Guru states the next version (3.10) will contain significant improvements for PH20 path planning and overall programming experience.

Version 3.9.2.7233
  • Allows circular range adjust for point locations on PH20 plane
  • Get Tip commands in PH20 program failed to mirror in certain cases
Version 3.9.1.7068
  • Selecting "Create Path" after the original path generation from Hole Pattern dialog with PH20 causes the points to be deleted
Version 3.7.1.5252
  • Disable PH20 inferred calibration option for unsupported stylus type
  • Fixed - Measure Cross Section doesn't work properly in PH20 Mode
Version 3.6.1.4184
  • Path Planning Enhancements - Updated PH20 model accuracy for improved reach
Version 3.5.1.3384
  • Large amounts of unused inferred PH20 tips were created in I++
  • Could not change DCC or PH20 settings from program tree if any parameter was out of range
  • Calculation of best tip when using PH20 as PH10 may be wrong for circles

By the way -- 3.9 SP2 (current version) will work just fine with your UCC Suite 5.3.xxx. So, a trial copy may be a good evaluate all the PH20 improvements (including the fix for extra inferred tips showing up).

I just counted 20+ PH20 development tasks that we've already addressed for upcoming 3.10 release. By the time we release there could be more. These updates range from minor enhancements to significant improvements. The most significant overall improvement for end user will be a programming workflow that requires far less editing or thinking about probe paths, making the programming experience nearly as easy as the much simpler PH10.
