We have some production parts that have a true position dimension that cannot be checked with micrometers or indicator. My question is does it hurt a CMM to run it full time like a CNC machine? We run about 250 pcs per day 5 days per week. Nikon said they have people who run them 24/7. We have a Sheffield discovery D8 with CMM Manager. Are we going to wear it out running it like this. Run time per part is around 2 minutes.
Maybe need to adjust PM and calibration schedule... Otherwise assuming the machine is setup and maintained it shouldn't be too big of a problem. You should really be checking with your service / calibration provider that's familiar with your particular machine.
We deal with Nikon metrology and they said they have people run 24/7 with machines. We would be running constant 10 hours per day. I will have to check with our supplier to see what maintenance should be getting done? Thanks for your input. Any ideas of a gauge to check true position of a hole?
