Disc stylus with ruby balls

Post by agangle » Tue Aug 13, 2019 9:28 am

Hello. Is it possible to use a disc stylus with ruby balls (https://www.carbideprobes.com/product/271/) with cmm-m 3.3.2?
I've tried to configure one, but there doesn't seem to be the option for a disc stylus with balls. If not, is it possible to use one with the latest version of cmm-m? Or should I consider other options for measuring the Z position of a slot, such as a star stylus? Thanks for the help!

You can probably use those to measure groove widths/locations, but it will involve a math function in a VB script to get the compensated point location.

A star tip will be both easier and more accurate. It does not need to be a complete star either if you have size constraints.

Whether you use the disc or a star probe, you should use a 6-way module to allow for the upward Z motion touches. This is especially true with the disc.
